~ Tata/Iveco talks to resume
Iveco’s CEO, Paolo Monferino, speaking to Italy’s Il Giornale newspaper has unveiled the resumption of talks between the Italian truck maker and the Indian truck manufacturer Tata. This could lead, long term, to a new range on sale in Australia under the Iveco brand.

“On (Tata’s) part, there was a brief halt connected with the closure of the acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover. Soon, though, talks will restart,” Monferino said.

The talks are around joint vehicle development and manufacture in South America, Africa and South East Asia.
Any truck built in Asia could be very interesting for Australian truck buyers. There has been talk of a new medium duty or light heavy duty range from Iveco sourced from Asia but branded Iveco. This could give the company a product to compete on equal terms with the Japanese truck brands who dominate this market sector.
