New 11 litre fills a gap

To meet the demands of weight-sensitive applications such as tanker and bulk transport, Volvo is introducing a new 11-litre engine for the Volvo FM 4×2 and 6×2 tractor in the European market.

The new D11B engine, which will be unveiled at the IAA Truck Show in Hannover next month, is about 140 kg lighter than the larger D13 engine. The 11 litre Volvo FM to be displayed is equipped with I-Shift and features an updated driver’s environment in an all-new LXL-cab.

Also on show from Volvo will be their new medium duty auto, I-Sync, an automated transmission for the Volvo FL distribution truck.

The new look cabin for the heavy duty FH range will also be on show at Hannover.Volvo say the redesigned interior that offers convenience while working and almost luxurious comfort while resting.

It is said to include innovative lighting solutions, a more spacious interior, smart storage solutions and is prepared for the latest entertainment technology.

Visitors to Volvo’s stand will also be able to learn more about new advanced safety support systems, such as the Driver Alert Support that uses a camera to monitor the vehicle’s course in relation to the road markings. If the driving pattern is perceived as irregular, the driver is alerted.

Other safety innovations on show include Rain Sensor, Cornering lights and Lane Changing Support that uses a radar to detect vehicles driving alongside the cab on the passenger side – eliminating the blind spot.
